Early Years Curriculum

We have a designed and planned programme at Playgroup that emphasises learning through play and aims to encourage the development of each child, so that they may become secure and confident outside their home environment. Good personal and social development is a crucial foundation in making progress in other areas.

Our Education programme is planned to work with the Foundation Stage, which will lead to children achieving the Early Learning Goals by the end of the reception year in school.  The Foundation Stage covers the age group of three years to five plus years i.e. the end of the reception year in school, preceding the National Curriculum Key Stage 1.

Children learn in many different ways, by playing, talking, observing, planning, doing, questioning, experimenting, testing, repeating, reflecting and responding to adults and to each other. Well-planned play both indoors and outdoors is a key way in which children learn with enjoyment and challenge during the Foundation Stage.

The areas of learning incorporated into our learning are:

Prime Areas

• Personal, Social and Emotional Development

• Physical Development

• Communication and Language

Specific Areas

• Literacy

• Mathematics

• Understanding the World

  • Expressive Arts and Design
