In order to give the children security and a sense of independence a session will typically follow a regular routine of:
The children are welcomed and allowed to organise themselves, hanging up coats, putting toys in the keeping box, saying goodbye to carers and choosing an activity.
During this time there will be various tables of activities available e.g. creativity, puzzles, construction toys, malleable materials, books etc. In the adjoining room other play opportunities are also available such as the home corner, climbing frame and sand play.
Tidy Up Time
The children are encouraged to assist in order to promote responsibility.
Drink and Snack Time
Nominated children assist in serving and the remaining children are encouraged to sit patiently and quietly. Staff circulate to converse with the children and to promote good manners.
The children engage in a period of physical activity e.g. musical movement, ball games or large group activity.
The children share and discuss the day’s activities, celebrate birthdays, sing songs and rhymes and participate in ‘show and tell’.
The children say goodbye and wait for their names to be called before proudly collecting any paintings, drawing or craft work completed during that session.
