Policy & Procedure to be followed in the event of a parent/carer being under the influence of alcohol or drugs when collecting a child from playgroup

Our playgroup believes that the safety of children is of paramount importance.  The welfare of children is always our primary consideration.

In the event of playgroup staff suspecting that a parent/carer is under the influence of alcohol or drugs, they will be deemed by staff to be unfit to take over the care of a child.  In these circumstances the following procedure will take place:

  • Staff will immediately contact the next authorised adult on the child’s information form, inform them of the situation and ask them to immediately collect the child from playgroup;
  • The Police should then be telephoned and informed of the situation;
  • The child should not be allowed to leave the Playgroup until the responsible, authorised adult has collected them from the session.

This policy was adopted at a meeting of Reigate High Street Playgroup held on ………………………………………………………
